2004 Alesia Sonatera Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Varietal: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2004
Vineyard: Sonatera Vineyard
Appellation: Sonoma Coast
Recommendation: Drink

January, 2010: The earliest drinking of our 2004 Alesia Pinots. CO2 requires decanting.

January, 2009: This wine really needs an hour in a decanter to help blow off the excess CO2. It is open and accessible otherwise. Drink.

January, 2007: Located in the heart of the Petaluma Gap, Sonatera vineyard gets pummeled with the chilly fog that rushes in to cool California's inner valleys. This climatic condition produces extremely tiny grapes and small clusters leading to a wine of exceptional concentration and distinctive black-fruited character. Unfortunately, like our Kanzler release, the 2004 will be our only vintage of this wine. Explosive and complex nose of ripe black fruit and savory herbs. The delicious entry offers bucketloads of sweet blackberry compote that lead to an extremely persistent finish with some subtle minerality. We feel this wine successfully combines seemingly disparate elements of hedonistic fruit, balance and complexity. It is delicious now but can be cellared for a few years.
